Batch mode: dealing with whole CDs

With this you can specify an input and output directory to use, and the batch mode menu will go through each track and declip it according to the settings on the main menu. This menu effectively 'drives' the other one, for multiple files.

This is accessible from the Tools → Batch menu.

DeClip, Level or Resample

This chooses what to do. Remember the settings in the preferences menu affects the output still.
  • Declip and Level - uses the settings in the main info window.
  • Resample - uses the settings in the resample window (Tools → resample).

Creating comparism files

When you declip a file you actually achieve two things:
  1. A lowering of the level of the file, which can make many DACs sound better
  2. A reconstruction of the missing data

This all makes comparing what difference the reconstruction makes, because of course the result is quieter and will therefore sound quite different anyway.
The comparism function in the batch file therefore creates a file of the correct level so you can listen to them both and see which one you prefer. You can in fact create a CD full of the before and after tracks.

(The Use 50ms RMS averaging option is only available in the Pro version).

Which level to use

There is a choice of levels for the comparism files, because nothing is ever simple.
  • Follow level reduction The default setting reduces the level of the comparism file by exactly the same amount as the original file. Therefore if the original was reduced by 6.2677dB, then the comparism file will also be reduced by 6.2677dB. This is the preferred choice of level.
  • Match final declipped level The Match level is one that acknowledges that when you add on/reconstruct the missing bits of waveform onto the waveform it actually gets a bit louder, and so lowers the level a tiny bit less, so the level of the comparism file is exactly the same as the declipped on, despite the fact that certain quiet passages may well be slightly quieter now. This setting is for interest only, and we do not recommend it.

Note: Dither (if selected) is applied equally to the comparism and the declipped sound file.

Interrupting the batch process

If you click on Stop/Close when a batch task is in progress you have to wait for the current task to complete. When it does, a pop-up will ask you if you want to stop. If you do, the current track declip only will complete and the program will stop.
